Volunteers' Week 1-7 June 2021

[Please scroll down for Welsh]

Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council (DVSC) would like to thank volunteers for their contribution over the last year and beyond, with a Celebrating #DenbighshireVolunteers event to mark Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 1-7 June.

The role of DVSC is to provide advice and information to local voluntary and community groups on volunteering, funding sources and governance.

During the pandemic and at present, DVSC has worked with 93 volunteers. These people have selflessly collected prescriptions, shopped and gardened for citizens as well as being telephone befrienders and providing support over the phone for anyone requiring digital assistance.

To celebrate these achievements, next Tuesday 1st June at 2.00pm we are hosting an online event - Celebrating #DenbighshireVolunteers. The agenda for this is as follows:

  • 2.00pm Introduction and Welcome – Tom Barham, Chief Officer, Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council

  • 2.10pm Volunteering During the Pandemic and Beyond – Gareth Jones #DenbighshireVolunteers Support Officer, DVSC

  • 2:20pm Being a Digital Buddy – Kimberly Parry, Denbighshire Digital Buddy

  • 2.30pm What Volunteering has Done For Me – Danny Letham, DVSC Volunteer

  • 2.40pm Volunteers Helping Shape the Dementia Aware Denbighshire Programme – Vanessa van Lierde, Wellbeing Partnerships Lead, DVSC

  • 2.50pm Closing comments

‘During Covid-19 and beyond our volunteers have invaluable in helping people obliged to isolate or unable to get out. It has been inspirational to see community spirit thriving’ – Gareth Jones, #DenbighshireVolunteers Support Officer, DVSC.

Volunteers are central to the work of countless charities and other organisations. They are a valuable presence in many communities, making a difference in places as diverse as sports clubs, libraries, schools and hospitals.

Over the past twelve months as communities, neighbours and individuals responded to coronavirus and various lockdown formats volunteers have also raised vital funds for voluntary organisations, through a range of fundraising activities and helped share messages of public health information across social media sites.

The annual Volunteers Week campaign, which was established in 1984, recognises the contribution volunteers make to our communities every day. This year, such recognition of volunteers continues to be vitally important.

Charities across the UK will share messages to thank their volunteers and celebrate the power of volunteering to bring communities together and to be there in times of need.

For many volunteer involving organisations, the week will also be a chance to inform prospective volunteers of the range of volunteering opportunities on offer. Those interested will be invited to visit the online volunteering platforms available in each nation to see what is available. In Wales, individuals are invited to visit www.volunteering-wales.net.
