DENBIGHSHIRE LEARNING DISABILITY FORUM

Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council (DVSC) has supported the Denbighshire Learning Disability Forum for over two decades thanks to grant funding from Denbighshire County Council (DCC) Community Support Services.

DVSC has worked hard to support individuals with learning disabilities and their families to have a voice on the things that matter to them, and to share information on local activities and services over a number of years. Both DVSC and DCC agree that a fresh approach is required with individuals, and potentially with a more specialist organisation to deliver services.

The coming months provide an excellent opportunity to look at what is needed going forward and who might be best placed to deliver the service. DVSC will support the Forum’s activities to 31st March 2019 and are working closely with DCC to manage the transition so that members of the Forum are kept informed and actively involved. Forum members who wish to retain involvement with DVSC are welcome to do so. Involvement with DVSC brings a number of benefits. Forum members can find out more here.

If you would like to be involved in helping to develop a new service please contact: jeni.andrews@denbighshire.gov.uk or phone Jeni on 01824 706634.

LEARNING DISABILITY LIBRARY

The Learning Disability Library provides a range of literature on Learning Disabilities to those in Denbighshire working with, or caring for, people with learning disabilities.

This is a collection of books related to learning disability and autism that we hold for members of the public to borrow. It is a mix of reference and easy-read fiction for service users and professionals to use and is being updated regularly.

BECOME A SUPPORTER

Hello again … … today we have a small favour to ask. Volunteers, voluntary and community action and the third sector are at the heart of building more sustainable and resilient communities and we need them more than ever.

DVSC receives core funding from the Welsh Government but we need to raise more money so that we can continue to provide excellent sector support - whether you're a volunteer,  voluntary and community group or a third sector organisation.

We can provide a wealth of information and resources and we want to keep our services as accessible as we can, and to reach as many groups as we can.  So we think it’s fair to ask people who visit us often for their help - if they feel able to give it.

Our Sector Support service is resource intensive, but we are investing in it because we believe providing support to volunteers, voluntary and community groups, charities, social enterprises and community interest companies - has to be at the heart of what we do. If you like what we are about, and you want to help support it, our future would be much more secure.
