Good governance in charities is fundamental to their success. It enables and supports a charity’s compliance with the law and relevant regulations. It also promotes a culture where everything works towards fulfilling the charity’s vision
Good governance needs well informed and active trustees. DVSC’s Sector Support can provide information and advice, training and networking opportunities to help ensure your organisation is governed effectively.
We provide access to an online suite of information sheets, offering advice and guidance for trustees and leadership teams or senior managers, including a Code of Conduct. There are other useful reports and sources of support based on your specific governance challenges and the opportunity to be involved in Trustees Week, and network with others.

CHARITY GOVERNANCE CODE
TSSW, of which DVSC is a part of, are signatories to NCVO's Charity Governance Code.
This Code is intended for use by charities registered in England and Wales. Much of it will also apply to other not-for-profit organisations that deliver a public or community benefit and those with a social purpose. Organisations or subsectors may find it helpful to adapt the Code to reflect their context.
The Code’s principles, rationale and outcomes are universal and apply equally to all charities, whatever their size or activities. It is designed as a Practical tool. Charity boards that are using this Code effectively will regularly revisit and reflect on the Code’s principles.
Each principle in the Code has a brief description, a rationale (the reasons why it is important), key outcomes (what you would expect to see if the principle were adopted) and recommended practice (what a charity might do to implement the principle). Hello again … … today we have a small favour to ask. Volunteers, voluntary and community action and the third sector are at the heart of building more sustainable and resilient communities and we need them more than ever.
DVSC receives core funding from the Welsh Government but we need to raise more money so that we can continue to provide excellent sector support - whether you're a volunteer, voluntary and community group or a third sector organisation.
We can provide a wealth of information and resources and we want to keep our services as accessible as we can, and to reach as many groups as we can. So we think it’s fair to ask people who visit us often for their help - if they feel able to give it.
Our Sector Support service is resource intensive, but we are investing in it because we believe providing support to volunteers, voluntary and community groups, charities, social enterprises and community interest companies - has to be at the heart of what we do. If you like what we are about, and you want to help support it, our future would be much more secure.
