PRESS RELEASE (37) DENBIGHSHIRE DIGITAL BUDDIES

[Please scroll down for Welsh]

26 November 2021 - Digital volunteering scheme appeals for Welsh speakers

A ‘buddy’ scheme to give those who need help with their digital devices is looking for Welsh speakers.

Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council, Digital Communities Wales and Denbighshire County Council teamed up earlier this year to launch Denbighshire Digital Buddies to support those who need help with their devices.

Now Welsh speakers are being asked to come forward and act as ‘digital buddies’ to provide support over the phone.

The pandemic has highlighted how digital inclusion is fundamental and without technology it would be extremely difficult to stay connected with family, friends and loved ones.

There are people who are still not as confident in using tablets and smartphones, and the scheme aims to reach those that feel left behind and help them acquire digital skills. Gareth Jones, of Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council, said: “Communities across Wales and especially in Denbighshire have come together during this pandemic, and our digital buddies scheme has tapped into that positive energy within our communities to support each other but we would like to get more Welsh speakers on board.”

Cllr Bobby Feeley, Denbighshire County Council’s Lead member for Well-being and Independence, said: “This pandemic has brought to light the need for digital assistance more than ever.

“Supporting this scheme is a priority for the Council and it supports our Corporate Plan priority to create resilient and well-connected communities so our residents can access goods and services online.

“We are encouraging Welsh speakers to come forward and volunteer as part of the scheme and help those who need a little extra support developing digital skills.”

Deian ap Rhisiart, of Digital Communities Wales, said: “We have been working in the field of digital inclusion for nearly a decade across Wales, and this is a timely response to tackle the digital skills gap. People need to be able to stay connected, to be able to use digital services, sustain their mental health in lockdown, and technology is an integral part of the solution. As Dyffryn Clwyd is one of the strongholds of the Welsh language, we are appealing for Welsh speaking digital buddies to help in their ‘bro’.”

Volunteer Keith Jones said: "There is a danger of some people in society being left behind. This has become more evident during the pandemic. I would like to use my skillset to assist."

If you have or know of a relative or friend that needs digital help and require help how to use it, the scheme would like to hear from you they can be paired up with a Digital Buddy or if you speak Welsh and would like to become a digital buddy and help in your community, please get in touch.

DATGANIAD I'R WASG (37) CYFEILLION DIGIDOL SIR DDINBYCH

26 Tachwedd 2021 - Cyfeillion Digidol Sir Ddinbych yn chwilio am siaradwyr Cymraeg

Mae cynllun i recriwtio gwirfoddolwyr digidol yn Sir Ddinbych yn chwilio am siaradwyr Cymraeg i ymuno fel cyfeillion digidol a chynorthwyo gyda’r gwaith o helpu pobl i ddefnyddio technoleg.

Daeth Cyngor Gwasanaethau Gwirfoddol Sir Ddinbych, Cymunedau Digidol Cymru a Chyngor Sir Ddinbych at ei gilydd yn gynharach eleni i lansio cynllun Cyfeillion Digidol Sir Ddinbych i helpu’r rhai sydd angen cymorth gyda’u teclynnau digidol.

Mae’r pandemig wedi amlygu yn fwy nag erioed pa mor bwysig yw cynhwysiant digidol, ac heb dechnoleg byddai’n anodd iawn cadw mewn cysylltiad â theulu, ffrindiau ac anwyliaid.

Bwriad y cynllun hwn yw cyrraedd y rhai sy’n teimlo eu bod wedi cael eu gadael ar ôl a’u helpu i ddysgu neu wella eu sgiliau digidol. Dywedodd Gareth Jones o Gyngor Gwasanaethau Gwirfoddol Sir Ddinbych: “Mae cymunedau ar hyd a lled Cymru ac yn arbennig yn Sir Ddinbych wedi dod at ei gilydd yn ystod y pandemig, a nod y cynllun yw manteisio ar y brwdfrydedd yn ein cymunedau i gefnogi’r naill a’r llall, ond hoffem annog mwy o siaradwyr Cymraeg i ymuno.”

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Bobby Feeley, Aelod Arweiniol Cyngor Sir Ddinbych dros Les ac Annibyniaeth: “Mae’r pandemig hwn wedi dangos yn fwy nag erioed bod angen cymorth digidol ar rai pobl.

“Mae cefnogi’r cynllun hwn yn flaenoriaeth i’r Cyngor ac mae’n cefnogi ein blaenoriaeth Cynllun Corfforaethol i greu cymunedau cryf sydd wedi eu cysylltu’n dda er mwyn i’n preswylwyr gael mynediad at nwyddau a gwasanaethau ar-lein.

“Rydym yn annog siaradwyr Cymraeg i ddod ymlaen a gwirfoddoli fel rhan o’r cynllun hwn a helpu’r rhai sydd angen ychydig mwy o gefnogaeth i ddatblygu sgiliau digidol.”

Dywedodd Deian ap Rhisiart ar ran Cymunedau Digidol Cymru: “Rydym wedi bod yn gweithio ym maes cynhwysiant digidol am dros ddegawd ledled Cymru ac mae’r cynllun hwn yn ymateb amserol i fynd i’r afael â’r bwlch mewn sgiliau digidol. Mae’n angenrheidiol i bobl allu cadw mewn cysylltiad, i allu defnyddio gwasanaethau digidol, cynnal eu iechyd meddwl ac mae technoleg wedi bod yn rhan annatod o’r datrysiad yn ystod eleni. Gan fod Dyffryn Clwyd yn un o gadarnleoedd y Gymraeg, rydym yn apelio am gyfeillion digidol sy’n siarad Cymraeg i helpu yn eu bro.”

Dywedodd y gwirfoddolwr Keith Jones: “Mae perygl y bydd rhai pobl mewn cymdeithas yn cael eu gadael ar ôl. Mae hyn wedi dod yn fwy amlwg yn ystod y pandemig. Hoffwn ddefnyddio fy sgiliau i helpu.”

Os oes gennych berthynas neu ffrind, neu os gwyddoch am rywun sydd angen help digidol ac angen arweiniad ar sut i ddefnyddio ffôn neu dabled, mae’r cynllun yn awyddus i glywed gennych. Gellir eu paru gyda Chyfaill Digidol, neu os ydych yn siarad Cymraeg ac os hoffech ddod yn gyfaill digidol i helpu eraill, maent yn annog pobl i gysylltu.
