Today, Monday 9 th November, the new hourly Living Wage rate for Wales has been announced as £9.50. DVSC became an accredited Living Wage employer in 2016, and welcomes the increase in UK rates announced by the Living Wage Foundation as part of Living Wage Week. A number of events are being held across the UK by the Living Wage Foundation, the body set up by Citizens UK to campaign for payment of the voluntary Living Wage. There are nearly 6,000 accredited Living Wage Employers in the UK, who all believe their staff deserve a fair day's pay for a hard day's work.
Sandra Donoghue, Chair of DVSC's board of Trustees says: “DVSC supports the Living Wage campaign in a bid to tackle in-work poverty. Choosing to pay the real living wage, provides us with an ethical benchmark for responsible pay and is a practical demonstration of our values in action.”
It’s more important than ever for DVSC to support the real living wage. This year has been challenging for both workers and businesses alike. With Covid 19, we’ve seen the increased vulnerability of those in low-paid and insecure work.

“As employers, how can we persuade someone in our team that we care about them, care about their wellbeing and care about their career aspirations, if we pay them the absolute minimum that we legally can? DVSC’s investment as Living Wage employers is important to us and is a key part of our environmental, social and governance strategy.”
The Living Wage Foundation is supported by the Welsh Government, and in turn are an accredited Living Wage employer. The Welsh Government encourage employers to take on the Living Wage as one of a range of actions to address the problems caused by poverty and low wages in Wales. One in Five workers across Wales are earning less than the Living Wage. However, correspondingly Cardiff has been named the first major urban area in the UK to become a Living Wage City by the Living Wage Foundation.
According to the Living Wage Foundation, there are over 220 accredited Living Wage Employers are based in Wales. Living wage week is a celebratory week, which occurs annually in relation to the Living Wage Movement. The campaign for a real Living Wage has ensured hundreds of thousands of workers are earning a wage they can live on, that is not just the government minimum.
93% of Living Wage Employers have benefited from accreditation. Become a Living Wage Employer and join the movement. ‘A hard day’s work, should mean a fair days pay’.

Heddiw, dydd Llun 9 Tachwedd, cyhoeddwyd mai'r gyfradd Cyflog Byw newydd yr awr i Gymru yw £ XX. Daeth DVSC yn gyflogwr Achrededig Cyflog Byw yn 2016, ac mae'n croesawu'r cynnydd yng nghyfraddau'r DU a gyhoeddwyd gan y Sefydliad Cyflog Byw fel rhan o'r Wythnos Cyflog Byw. Mae nifer o ddigwyddiadau yn cael eu cynnal ledled y DU gan y Sefydliad Cyflog Byw, y corff a sefydlwyd gan Citizens UK i ymgyrchu i dalu'r Cyflog Byw gwirfoddol. Mae bron i 6,000 o Gyflogwyr Cyflog Byw achrededig yn y DU, sydd i gyd yn credu bod eu staff yn haeddu diwrnod teg o dâl am ddiwrnod caled o waith.
Dywed Sandra Donoghue, Cadeirydd bwrdd Ymddiriedolwyr DVSC: “Mae DVSC yn cefnogi’r ymgyrch Cyflog Byw mewn ymgais i fynd i’r afael â thlodi mewn gwaith. Mae dewis talu’r cyflog byw go iawn, yn darparu meincnod moesegol inni ar gyfer cyflog cyfrifol ac mae’n arddangosiad ymarferol o’n gwerthoedd ar waith. ”
Mae'n bwysicach nag erioed i DVSC gefnogi'r cyflog byw go iawn. Mae eleni wedi bod yn heriol i weithwyr a busnesau fel ei gilydd. Gyda Covid 19, rydym wedi gweld bregusrwydd cynyddol y rhai mewn gwaith â chyflog isel ac ansicr.
“Mae DVSC wedi ymrwymo i wneud gwahaniaeth gwirioneddol i fywydau ein gweithwyr a'u teuluoedd, yn ogystal â'r cymunedau rydyn ni'n eu cynrychioli, ein rhanddeiliaid, ein haelodau, ein partneriaid a'n gwirfoddolwyr”, mae Sandra yn parhau. “Nid yn unig mai’r peth iawn i’w wneud i’n staff a’u teuluoedd, mae buddsoddi yn ein staff yn rhan hanfodol o ddatblygiad sefydliad cryfach a mwy gwydn i ddiogelu rhag sioc yn y dyfodol.”
“Fel cyflogwyr, sut allwn ni berswadio rhywun yn ein tîm ein bod ni’n poeni amdanyn nhw, yn gofalu am eu lles ac yn gofalu am eu dyheadau gyrfa, os ydyn ni’n talu’r lleiafswm absoliwt y gallwn ni yn gyfreithiol? Mae buddsoddiad DVSC fel cyflogwyr Cyflog Byw yn bwysig i ni ac mae'n rhan allweddol o'n strategaeth amgylcheddol, cymdeithasol a llywodraethu. ”
Cefnogir y Sefydliad Cyflog Byw gan Lywodraeth Cymru, ac yn ei dro maent yn gyflogwr Achrededig Cyflog Byw. Mae Llywodraeth Cymru yn annog cyflogwyr i ymgymryd â'r Cyflog Byw fel un o ystod o gamau i fynd i'r afael â'r problemau a achosir gan dlodi a chyflogau isel yng Nghymru. Mae un o bob pump o weithwyr ledled Cymru yn ennill llai na'r Cyflog Byw. Fodd bynnag, yn gyfatebol, mae Caerdydd wedi cael ei henwi fel yr ardal drefol fawr gyntaf yn y DU i ddod yn Ddinas Cyflog Byw gan y Sefydliad Cyflog Byw.
