Cruse Bridging the Gap – Supporting the LGBT+ Community / Cruse Pontio'r Bwlch - Cefnogi'r G

[Please scroll down for Welsh]

As part of our service commitment, we share the information below from Cruse North Wales Bereavement Care.

Losing a loved one can make you feel disconnected from the world around you. However, if you’re part of the LGBT+ community you might be facing more challenges than most. As well as the common experiences of grief, you might face discrimination – your relationship with the deceased not being recognised or your family not supporting you.

Whilst the issues following a loss can be different for everyone, it is important that you can get the support you need. Cruse Bridging the Gap (funded by the Co-op) is a peersupport group for bereaved people who identify as LGBT+.

Cruse Bereavement Care wants to improve the accessibility of our services for you. We also want to improve our volunteers’ awareness of the issues faced by the LGBT+ community.

We want to work together to identify what needs there are around bereavement within the community, exploring the strengths, barriers and vulnerabilities which exist.

With the help of the LGBT+ community we will develop materials specific to their needs, including:

  • Common experiences of grief

  • What someone can do to support themselves

  • What someone can do to support others who are mourning

  • Where to turn to if more support is needed

The evidence of the effectiveness of peer support is growing. Cruse’s work to grow peergroups throughout England, Northern Ireland and Wales has so far been positive. In many situations, group members have told us their wellbeing improves - particularly if they have faced stigma and are experiencing chronic loneliness. Bridging the Gap will begin online due to the current Covid-19 pandemic. When it is safe to meet in person, we will.

Over the next couple of months, we are keen to share questionnaires, hold focus groups and one-to-one interviews with members of the LGBT+ community to hear their experiences of bereavement. Through the participation of focus group members, questionnaires and structured interviews, we will update the Cruse equality, diversity and inclusion training.

If you identify as either lesbian, gay or bisexual or transgender, please take a moment to answer the questionnaires below and help Cruse collect vital information:

The questionnaire for LGB+

The questionnaire for transgender individuals

Fel rhan o'n hymrwymiad gwasanaeth, rydyn ni'n rhannu'r wybodaeth isod gan mae Cruse Gofal mewn Galar Gogledd Cymru.

Gall colli rhywun annwyl wneud ichi deimlo'n ddatgysylltiedig o'r byd o'ch cwmpas. Fodd bynnag, os ydych chi'n rhan o'r gymuned LGBT + efallai eich bod chi'n wynebu mwy o heriau na’r rhan fwyaf. Yn ogystal â phrofiadau cyffredin galar, efallai y byddwch chi'n wynebu gwahaniaethu – eich perthynas gyda'r ymadawedig ddim yn cael ei chydnabod neu'ch teulu ddim yn eich cefnogi.

Er y gall y materion sy'n dilyn colled fod yn wahanol i bawb, mae'n bwysig eich bod yn gallu gael y gefnogaeth sydd ei hangen arnoch. Mae Cruse Bridging the Gap (a ariennir gan y Co-op) yn grŵp cefnogi cyfoedion ar gyfer pobl mewn profedigaeth sy'n nodi eu bod yn LGBT +.

Mae Gofal Profedigaeth Cruse eisiau gwella hygyrchedd ein gwasanaethau i chi. Rydym hefyd eisiau gwella ymwybyddiaeth ein gwirfoddolwyr o’r materion a wynebir gan y gymuned LGBT+.

Rydym am weithio gyda'n gilydd i nodi pa anghenion sydd o gwmpas profedigaeth yn y gymuned, gan archwilio'r cryfderau, y rhwystrau a'r gwendidau sy'n bodoli.

Gyda chymorth y gymuned LGBT + byddwn yn datblygu deunyddiau sy'n benodol i'w hanghenion, gan gynnwys:

  • Profiadau cyffredin o alar

  • Beth all rhywun ei wneud i gynnal ei hun

  • Beth all rhywun ei wneud i gefnogi eraill sy'n galaru

  • Ble i droi os oes angen mwy o gefnogaeth

Mae'r dystiolaeth o effeithiolrwydd cefnogaeth cyfoed yn tyfu. Mae gwaith Cruse i dyfu grwpiau cyfoed ledled Lloegr, Gogledd Iwerddon a Chymru wedi bod yn gadarnhaol hyd yn hyn. Mewn llawer o sefyllfaoedd, mae aelodau'r grŵpiau wedi dweud wrthym fod eu lles yn gwella - yn enwedig os ydyn nhw wedi gwynebu stigma ac yn profi unigrwydd. Bydd Pontio'r Bwlch yn cychwyn ar-lein oherwydd pandemig Covid-19. Pan fydd yn ddiogel cyfarfod yn bersonol, fe wnawn ni hynny.

Dros yr ychydig fisoedd nesaf, rydym yn awyddus i rannu holiaduron, cynnal grwpiau ffocws a chyfweliadau un i un gydag aelodau o'r gymuned LGBT + i glywed eu profiadau o brofedigaeth. Trwy gyfranogiad aelodau'r grŵp ffocws, holiaduron a cyfweliadau strwythuredig, byddwn yn diweddaru'r hyfforddiant cydraddoldeb, amrywiaeth a chynhwysiant Cruse.

Os ydych chi'n nodi naill ai'n lesbiaidd, hoyw, ddeurywiol neu drawsryweddol, cymerwch eiliad i ateb yr holiaduron isod a helpu Cruse i gasglu gwybodaeth hanfodol:

Holiadur ar gyfer LGB +

Holiadur ar gyfer unigolion trawsryweddol

Os hoffech chi ymuno â'r grŵp Cruse Pontio'r Bwlch neu os hoffech ragor o wybodaeth, cysylltwch â Dan Scrase ar 01492 536577 neu trwy e-bostio northwales@cruse.org.uk.
