This is a brief update to let you know what’s been going on and what’s coming up.
Responding to Covid 19
It will be no surprise to hear that activity since March has focused on the Covid 19 pandemic, with much other work temporarily paused.
We have kept in touch with volunteering leads in NHS and in local authorities, contributed to guidance on volunteering for third sector, local authorities, social care and NHS and to policy discussions with both Welsh and UK Governments.
We hosted an online event on Community response and volunteering, as part of WCVA series of six events exploring #Differentfutures. A report and a blog are available. A network involving local authorities, Town and Community Councils and CVCs continues to meet and will consider how best to develop links with and provide support for the many local community volunteer initiatives which have developed during the crisis
We were pleased to support the development and launch of Age Cymru Friend in Need volunteer telephone befriending service. This initiative will also support friends or neighbours who provide Informal help to older people.
As we begin to look beyond the immediate crisis the focus is on two priorities:
Firstly, supporting the process of re-commencing volunteering and preparing to do things differently in the future .
We have recorded a podcast and developed guidance on volunteering as lockdown eases. The revised WCVA/Wales TUC Charter on volunteering and workplace relationships will be relevant as organisations take the opportunity to rethink and perhaps redesign volunteering services.
Secondly, gathering evidence, reflecting and evaluating what we have learned through recent experience
A case study template has been developed and you are invited to contribute your volunteering stories. These may be published on WCVA or other websites; they may contribute to reflective articles or blogs and will support academic research.
We have been invited to contribute a Wales perspective on volunteering and the Covid 19 pandemic, to a Helpforce UK webinar in July and to a Voluntary Sector and Volunteering Research e-conference in September.

Helpforce pilot projects to develop volunteering in end of life care have been formally paused across the UK, due to Covid 19. Most Trusts and Health Boards are now re designing their projects, for example to enable virtual rather than face to face patient contact, or in some cases to increase emphasis on bereavement support. We continue to support Aneurin Bevan UHB, Hywel Dda UHB and Powys THB in the development of their local projects.
A framework for the induction of volunteers in health and care has been developed by Helpforce and is now freely available in Welsh and English. We are exploring how these indicators can become the basis of a new accredited Volunteering Certificate. A national learning hub for volunteering which includes the indicators, core curriculum material and links to training resources has been launched in England. We have identified relevant training material from Wales providers (notably NHS Wales and Social Care Wales) and are in discussion with the developers with a view to adding links to these and other Wales sources and making the site more relevant to users in Wales.
The Helpforce Burdett project aims to identify and support clinical leaders to develop innovative volunteering within their clinical field. The project is being reoriented to have greater emphasis on volunteering as a pathways to future careers. We are working with the Bevan Commission to see how this might work and how to take it forward in Wales.
Interviews to capture some reactions to the recently launched WCVA/Wales TUC Charter for Volunteering and workplace relationships have been release. Please share them on social media!
Helpforce is working with Third Sector Support Wales (WCVA and 19 CVCs), Welsh Government and other partners to develop the potential of volunteering to support health and social care services in Wales.

Ymateb i Covid-19
Ni ddaw'n syndod i glywed bod ein gweithgareddau ers mis Mawrth wedi canolbwyntio ar bandemig Covid-19, gyda llawer o waith wedi ei ohirio i'r dyfodol.
Rydyn ni wedi cadw cysylltiad â'n prif gysylltiadau gwirfoddoli yn y GIG ac awdurdodau lleol, wedi cyfrannu at greu canllawiau gwirfoddoli yn y trydydd sector, ym maes gofal cymdeithasol a'r GIG, yn ogystal â chyfrannu at drafodaethau polisi gyda llywodraethau Cymru a'r DU.
Gwnaethom gynnal digwyddiad ar-lein ar Ymateb y Gymuned a Gwirfoddoli, fel rhan o gyfres o chwe digwyddiad gan CGGC yn edrych ar #DyfodolGwahanol. Mae adroddiad a blog ar gael. Mae rhwydwaith o awdurdodau lleol, Cynghorau Tref a Chymuned, a Chynghorau Gwirfoddol Sirol (CGS) yn parhau i gyfarfod a byddant yn ystyried y dulliau gorau o ddatblygu cysylltiadau gyda'r llu o fentrau gwirfoddol cymunedol lleol sydd wedi codi yn ystod yr argyfwng a chynnig cefnogaeth iddynt.
Roedd yn bleser gennym gyhoeddi datblygiad a lansiad cynllun Age Cymru - Ffrind Mewn Angen, gwasanaeth ymgyfeillio dros y ffôn. Bydd y fenter hon yn cefnogi cyfeillion a chymdogion sy'n darparu cymorth i bobl hŷn.
Wrth i ni edrych y tu hwnt i'r argyfwng presennol, byddwn yn canolbwyntio ar ddwy flaenoriaeth:
Yn gyntaf, cefnogi'r broses o ail-gychwyn gwirfoddoli a pharatoi at wneud pethau'n wahanol yn y dyfodol.
Rydym wedi recordio podlediad a datblygu canllaw ar wirfoddoli wrth i'r cyfyngiadau lacio. Bydd siarter diwygiedig CGGC/TUC Cymru Siarter Cydberthnasau Gwirfoddoli a'r Gweithle yn berthnasol wrth i sefydliadau ail-feddwl a hwyrach ail-gynllunio eu gwasanaethau gwirfoddoli.
Yn ail, casglu tystiolaeth, adlewyrchu a chloriannu'r hyn rydyn ni wedi ei ddysgu o'n profiad diweddar.
Rydyn ni wedi llunio templed astudiaeth achos ac mae croeso i chi gyfrannu eich straeon gwirfoddoli. Gall y rhain gael eu cyhoeddi ar wefan CGGC neu ar wefannau eraill; gallant o bosib gyfrannu at erthyglau adlewyrchol neu flogiau, a byddant yn cefnogi ymchwil academaidd.
Rydym wedi derbyn gwahoddiad i gyfrannu persbectif Cymreig ar wirfoddoli a'r pandemig Covi-19, at weminar Helpforce UK ym mis Gorffennaf, ac at e-gynhadledd Y Sector Gwirfoddol ac Ymchwil Gwirfoddoli ym mis Medi.
Newyddion arall:
Mae cynlluniau peilot Helplu i ddatblygu gwirfoddoli mewn gofal diwedd oes wedi cael eu dal yn ôl am y tro oherwydd Covi-19 ledled y DU. Mae'r rhan fwyaf o Ymddiriedolaethau a Byrddau Iechyd nawr yn ail-gynllunio eu prosiectau, er enghraifft i hwyluso cyswllt wyneb yn wyneb â chleifion, neu mewn rhai achosion cynyddu'r pwyslais ar gefnogaeth mewn profedigaeth. Rydyn ni'n parhau i gefnogi Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Aneirin Bevan, Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Hywel Dda a Bwrdd Iechyd Addysgu Powys i ddatblygu eu prosiectau lleol.
Mae Helplu wedi datblygu fframwaith ar gyfer seflydlu gwirfoddolwyr ym meysydd iechyd a gofal cymdeithasol ac mae ar gael yn rhwydd yn Gymraeg a Saesneg. Rydym yn edrych ar sut gall y dangosyddion hyn fod yn sail i Dystysgrifau Gwirfoddoli achredol newydd. Yn Lloegr, lansiwyd hyb dysgu ar gyfer gwirfoddoli sy'n cynnwys dangosyddion, deunydd cwricwlwm craidd a dolenni i adnoddau. Rydym wedi adnabod deunydd hyfforddi perthnasol gan ddarparwyr yng Nghymru (yn bennaf GIG Cymru a Gofal Cymdeithasol Cymru) ac wrthi'n trafod â'r datblygwyr ac yn ystyried ychwanegu’r dolenni hyn ynghyd â ffynonellau eraill o Gymru i wneud y wefan yn fwy perthnasol i ddefnyddwyr yng Nghymru.
Nod prosiect Helpforce Burdett yw ceisio adnabod a chefnogi arweinwyr clinigol i ddatblygu gwirfoddoli arloesol yn eu meysydd clinigol. Mae'r prosiect yn cael ei ailgyfeirio i gael mwy o bwyslais ar wirfoddoli fel llwybr yrfaoedd. Rydyn ni'n gweithio gyda Chomisiwn Bevan i weld sut gall hyn weithio a sut i fwrw 'mlaen â'r prosiect yng Nghymru.
Rydym wedi rhyddhau cyfweliadau i geisio dal ymateb i lansiad diweddar Y Siarter Cydberthnasau a Gwirfoddoli a'r Gweithle CGGC/TUC Cymru. Mae croeso i chi eu rhannu nhw ar wefannau cymdeithasol!
