5th July is the 72nd anniversary of the NHS and it's going to be one to remember:

Dear colleagues,
Although there is anticipation about life getting back to normal with the relaxation of lockdown regulations announced by the First Minister today, the threat of COVID-19 remains very real. Yesterday a further eight deaths in Wales were reported by Public Health Wales which is a sobering reminder that we must continue to follow Government advice to protect ourselves and our communities. It is so important that as healthcare staff, we all bear in mind that we are role models for others and that observing social distancing and maintaining rigorous hygiene standards really matters.
This afternoon, we were reminded of how devastating COVID-19 can be, as colleagues from Ysbyty Glan Clwyd lined the funeral route of their much-missed colleague Zaldy Manalo, who died last month. It was a fitting tribute for such a well-liked, dedicated and hard working nurse and our thoughts go out to all who knew Zaldy.
Over the past few months, many of you have been redeployed to support our response to COVID-19. Many colleagues undertook new roles as members of our Community Testing teams at Ysbyty Alltwen, Parc Menai in Bangor, Bryn Y Neuadd in Llanfairfechan, Wrexham Maelor Hospital and at the mass testing site at Llandudno. The Llandudno site is due to be handed over from the Health Board to the UK Government and Deloittes on Monday to free up our staff and help increase local laboratory capacity. This is a similar testing model to the drive-through mass testing centre in Deeside which uses capacity from the UK Government testing allocation.
This will ensure that the testing capacity in the Welsh system can support targeted testing approaches and the Test Trace Protect programme. This testing capacity will also help with managing any further spikes in infection that may come our way in the autumn and winter.
Colleagues from across the Health Board including dental nurses, therapists and operational managers who have been working at the site since April will now move to support the other local testing sites or return to their usual roles. On behalf of the Board, we thank all of those who have worked so hard at Llandudno and all those continuing to work at the other sites to support the vital testing programme across North Wales. Since mid April, the BCUHB testing teams have tested almost 37, 000 healthcare and local authority staff and we expect this number to exceed 40, 000 next week – a significant achievement. We have been very proud to see staff from across a range of disciplines and specialities come together to quickly adapt to new roles to deliver such a crucial service, sometimes in very challenging conditions. A fantastic effort.
On Sunday 5 July, it will be 72 years since the NHS was established. During the last few months, the NHS has been through the greatest test in its lifetime. And we will continue to deal with the many challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic for the foreseeable future. This year, as we remember all those we have lost, the way we mark the anniversary will have a different feel to years gone by. It is an opportunity to recognise, reflect and remember. On Sunday at 5pm, there is a national invitation for people to come together and applaud the commitment, courage and sacrifice shown by so many.
Finally, we wanted to let you know that colleagues from across NHS Wales have been working hard to arrange a virtual Pride Week from 24th August, culminating on what would have been Pride Cymru on 29th August. The week will include lots of different activities and events for everyone to get involved in and further details of what’s going on will follow in the coming weeks. Annwyl gydweithwyr,
Er bod disgwyliad i fywyd ddechrau mynd yn ôl i normal wedi cyhoeddiad y Prif Weinidog heddiw am lacio’r cyfyngiadau symud, mae bygythiad COVID-19 yn parhau’n fygythiad gwirioneddol. Ddoe, cyhoeddodd Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru bod naw arall wedi marw yng Nghymru, sy’n ffaith ddifrifol i’n hatgoffa bod yn rhaid i ni barhau i ddilyn cyngor y Llywodraeth i’m hamddiffyn ein hunain a’n cymunedau. Mae mor bwysig cofio ein bod ni, fel staff gofal iechyd, yn batrwm i eraill a bod cadw at reolau ymbellhau cymdeithasol a safonau hylendid llym wir yn bwysig.
Y prynhawn yma, cawsom ein hatgoffa mor ddinistriol y mae COVID-19 yn gallu bod, wrth i gydweithwyr o Ysbyty Glan Clwyd sefyll yn llwybr angladd eu cydweithiwr hoff Zaldy Manalo, a fu farw'r mis diwethaf. Roedd yn deyrnged addas i nyrs mor boblogaidd, ymroddgar a chydwybodol ac rydym yn meddwl am bawb oedd yn adnabod Zaldy.
Dros y misoedd diwethaf, mae llawer ohonoch wedi cael eich adleoli i gefnogi ein hymateb i COVID-19. Symudodd llawer o gydweithwyr i rolau newydd fel aelodau o’n timau Profi Cymunedol yn Ysbyty Alltwen, Parc Menai ym Mangor, Bryn y Neuadd yn Llanfairfechan, Ysbyty Maelor Wrecsam a’r safle profi mawr yn Llandudno. Bydd safle Llandudno yn cael ei drosglwyddo gan y Bwrdd Iechyd i Lywodraeth y DU a Deloittes ddydd Llun i ryddhau ein staff a helpu i gynyddu capasiti labordai lleol. Mae hwn yn fodel profi tebyg i’r ganolfan brofi drwy ffenestr y car yng Nglannau Dyfrdwy sy’n defnyddio capasiti o ddyraniad profi Llywodraeth y DU.
Bydd hyn yn sicrhau y gall y capasiti profi yn y system yng Nghymru gefnogi dulliau profi wedi’i dargedu a’r rhaglen Profi Olrhain Diogelu. Bydd y capasiti profi hwn hefyd yn helpu i reoli unrhyw gynnydd pellach mewn achosion a allai ddigwydd yn yr hydref a’r gaeaf.
Bydd cydweithwyr o’r Bwrdd Iechyd yn cynnwys nyrsys deintyddol, therapyddion a rheolwyr gweithredol sydd wedi bod yn gweithio ar y safle ers mis Ebrill yn awr yn symud i gefnogi safleoedd profi eraill yn lleol neu’n dychwelyd i’w rolau arferol. Ar ran y Bwrdd, rydym yn diolch i’r rhai sydd wedi gweithio mor galed yn Llandudno a’r rhai sy’n dal i weithio yn y safleoedd eraill i gefnogi’r rhaglen brofi hanfodol yng Ngogledd Cymru. Ers canol mis Ebrill, mae timau profi BIPBC wedi profi bron i 37,000 o staff gofal iechyd ac awdurdodau lleol ac rydym yn disgwyl i’r rhif hwn basio 40, 000 yr wythnos nesaf - cyflawniad sylweddol. Rydym wedi bod yn falch iawn o weld staff o ystod o ddisgyblaethau ac arbenigeddau yn dod at ei gilydd i addasu’n gyflym i rolau newydd i ddarparu gwasanaeth mor hanfodol, weithiau mewn amodau heriol iawn. Ymdrech wych.
Ddydd Sul, 5 Gorffennaf, bydd yn 72 mlynedd ers sefydlu’r GIG. Yn ystod y misoedd diwethaf, mae’r GIG wedi bod drwy brawf mwyaf ei oes. A byddwn yn parhau i ddelio â’r llawer o heriau fydd y pandemig COVID-19 yn ei achosi yn y cyfnod sydd i ddod. Eleni, wrth i ni gofio am bawb rydym wedi ei golli, bydd y ffordd y byddwn yn dathlu’r garreg filltir yn teimlo’n wahanol i’r blynyddoedd a fu. Mae’n gyfle i gydnabod, i fyfyrio ac i gofio. Ddydd Sul am 5pm, mae gwahoddiad cenedlaethol i bobl ddod ynghyd a chymeradwyo’r ymroddiad, y dewrder a’r aberth a ddangoswydd gan gymaint o bobl.
Yn olaf, roeddem eisiau rhoi gwybod i chi bod cydweithwyr o ar draws GIG Cymru wedi bod yn gweithio’n galed i drefnu Wythnos Balchder rithwir o 24 Awst, gyda’r uchafbwynt o’r hyn fyddai wedi bod yn Balchder Cymru ar 29 Awst. Bydd yr wythnos yn cynnwys llawer o weithgareddau a digwyddiadau gwahanol i bawb gymryd rhan ynddynt a bydd mwy o fanylion i ddilyn yn yr wythnosau nesaf.
