What does the service offer?

The ICAN Service will support people who would normally be discharged and who may attend Emergency Department (ED) regularly, for comfort or the need to speak to someone. It will offer a listening ear, support and signposting and people can spend time talking about their problems over a cup of tea and out of the ED environment.

The aim of the project is to reduce waiting times at ED, and to help and support those who go to ED but who do not require ED services.

Location:

The ICAN Centres are located at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and Ysbyty Maelor.

Opening Hours:

The service is open from 7.00pm to 2.00am daily.

Who is the service for?

The ICAN Centre is available for people aged 16 and over who present at ED and who do not require physical / medical intervention, and who do not require a Liaison assessment, but are lonely, in crisis, and are not suicidal or have self harmed.

Who will staff the service?

The ICAN Centre will be staffed by Third Sector organisation staff and volunteers.

How can the service be accessed?

Once a patient has been triaged and it is felt that the patient is appropriate for the ICAN service, the ED Staff can ring the ICAN Centre and a member of the ICAN Team will collect the patient from ED and take them to the ICAN Centre immediately after triage. When the patient is ready to leave the ICAN Centre a member of the team will take the patient back to the ED Department, where they will be discharged from the hospital.
