Press Release (8) - Living Wage Week 2018

Living Wage week celebrations at DVSC as the hourly Living Wage rate in Wales is announced as £9 this Monday 5th November

As the membership body for volunteers, voluntary and community groups, third sector organisations and social enterprises in Denbighshire, DVSC is taking part in UK wide celebrations for Living Wage week 2018 which runs from November 5th – 10th.

The Living Wage rates for this year are announced on Monday the 5th of November with the hourly Living Wage in Wales increasing to £9 per hour.

DVSC became an accredited Living Wage employer in 2016, and welcomes the increase in UK rates announced by the Living Wage Foundation as part of Living Wage Week

Helen Wilkinson, DVSC’s Chief Executive, says …

”I am passionate about tackling poverty and believe that tackling in work poverty is a big challenge facing Denbighshire, and the rest of Wales. One of my first acts as DVSC’s Chief Executive was to seek accreditation as a Living Wage employer in 2016.

As the membership body for the third sector in Denbighshire, part of DVSC’s role should be to model best practice and to positively encourage third sector organisations and our partners including businesses operating in the County to think about becoming a Living Wage employer.

The process of seeking accreditation as a Living Wage employer is relatively easy and we would like to encourage all our members and partners, small business and large employers in Denbighshire to sign up. Small increases in wages can make a really big difference to people at risk of in work poverty and being a Living Wage employer can give organisations the competitive edge when it comes to recruiting and retaining employees”.
