Lisa attended the North Wales Integrated Autism Service Conference on Wednesday 27th June in Llandudno recently. The conference provided information about the North Wales Integrated Autism Service and how it will link in to existing service. In addition, it provided an opportunity to hear from autistic individuals and their families about their experiences across the age range.

The North Wales Integrated Autism Service is an innovative service funded by Welsh Government up to March 2021 to provide a much needed Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessment pathway for adults without learning disabilities and no moderate to severe mental health issue. In addition, the service will provide advice and support to autistic individuals across the age range as well as their parents and carers. The service will also pr

ovide consultation and training for professionals.

The service is integrated across the six local authorities of North Wales and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The planning of the service has been jointly between the local authorities and health board as well as with third sector organisations and our much valued Lived Experience Advisors. The service will be jointly hosted by Flintshire County Council and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.

The service is committed to developing a service which responds to the needs of autistic individuals and their families across North Wales. As part of our work they will be working alongside Lived Experience Advisors to plan an engagement strategy for the Integrated Autism Service with autistic individuals and their families at its heart.

It was a great day with many inspiring speakers including Willow Holloway talking about older autistic adults, Daniel Jones talking about his experiences of being a high functioning autistic young adult and Sharon & Rosie King; Sharon’s frank and honest talk about family, parenting, enabling High Functioning Autistic Children and Rosie for her inspiring talk about her life through her teens & early twenties as an individual with High Functioning Autism.

There were also many stalls offering further information about Autism and support for individuals with a Learning Disability including ASD Info Wales, Vibro-Acoustic Therapy and Action for Asperger. The Denbighshire Learning Disability Forum also had a stall at the conference to promote what we do in Denbighshire.
